The farm was a lifelong dream I could never afford when I first bought it in 2013 as overgrown undeveloped land from a private owner. While developing the land, I quickly became overwhelmed and broke by the cost of excavating, fences, waterers, buildings, and equipment. Many nights were spent tearful and exhausted over a struggling marriage, never-ending farm bills, and a disabled Marine son with PTSD, personal demons, and a post-combat addiction. I spent every Sunday at church asking God, “What have I gotten into?” I felt the road to hell was paved with good intentions, and so it was named.

It was through prayer, hard work, and my Keymar neighbors that the farm kept going. Eight years later, Army veteran Bryan Allison purchased a Clydesdale foal from me, ironically named Glorious Mayhem, which he felt summed up his life. The bond the two shared was truly incredible and caring for her began to help Bryan heal. Two years after that and after Bryan’s passing, Bryan gave our farm a heart by creating Fixin’ Fences at Good Intentions Farm. Our farm and Clydesdales are now dedicated to healing our nation’s heroes by offering weekend experiences and equine-assisted services to veterans and their families struggling with PTSD and other invisible effects of war and military service.

Moral: "NEVER GIVE UP; WHAT YOU GIVE IS WHAT YOU RECEIVE, AND TRUST IN GOD!"
